Liam - Trout Fishing

That’s why I love spending time with Liam. At 13, Liam told me that everyone in his class was taller than him. Sounds familiar. He is athletic, and aspires to play college ball. He is sociable, with a big friend group. And his dad isn’t in his life. Pretty much a mirror image of my 13 year old self. He is also super competitive. Every trip we go on with Liam he counts every single fish he catches and calls it out. Liam is also an incredible fly angler. Lots of the kids we take love catching fish, love being on the river and have a great day. But Liam is a savage. A fish catching savage. Laser focused on every cast, every drift and every fish all day long. He lost one fly on a full day float, which is remarkable. Caught his personal best rainbow at 16 inches, and ran up the score on these fish!

Our conversations ranged from baseball to dating, to becoming a welder, to rap music, and family. It was a blast, and Liam really opened about school and family. I was able to share my story about my dad growing up, hopefully opening the door for him to share in our future trips. Got to tell him not to worry that all the girls are going for the tall guys in his classes that have some start of a sketchy mustache. It’s ok to be a late bloomer and it’s better to peak later in life than in the 7th grade… can I get an amen.

We got to eat a pound of sour patch kids and skittles. Make a sub par fire. Roast marshmallows. Yell dj Khalid every time we hooked a fish, pray, and enjoy an awesome late winter day together. Big shout out to Josiah Rothlisberger for chaperoning this trip! And thank you for your support in making this trip happen. Can’t wait for another day on the water with Liam!
